Title Can Tweets Replace Polls? A U.S. Health-Care Reform Case Study
Year 2013
Access date 17.06.2014
Abstract

This chapter investigates the utility of Twitter for tracking public opinion about health-care reform. It considers whether Twitter data may supplement traditional survey data for a topic such as public opinion about health-care reform that is of wide interest to the general public, heavily discussed publicly, and likely to shift over time. The purpose of this study is to examine whether Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) trends in Tweets about health-care reform correlate with observed trends in public opinion about health-care reform. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the key findings, strengths and limitations of the study, and areas for future research.
